Transforming care through community support

Renew Sinai is the largest and most ambitious redevelopment project in the history of Mount Sinai Hospital, which is rebuilding and redesigning the facilities, systems and equipment in some of the hospital’s core programs. The latest phase of Renew Sinai will nearly double the size of the Schwartz/Reisman Emergency Centre to transform care for the nearly 60,000 patients that it treats annually.

In the fall, the staff lounge in Schwartz/Reisman Emergency Centre was renovated thanks to a generous donation from David and Stacey Cynamon. Knowing that the lounge is so critical to staff, especially in a busy, high-traffic patient area like emergency, David and Stacey stepped in to revitalize the space.

“The emergency department is truly one of the busiest, most hectic places in the hospital and the staff here deserve the world,” said David. “I saw the old staff lounge one day while accompanying a friend to emergency, and I knew Stacey and I had to do something. Renovating and updating this space was the least we could do to give the incredible staff here a nice, clean space where they can relax on their breaks.”

The new lounge features leather recliners for staff to put up their feet between busy shifts, a flat screen TV and new kitchen appliances. Stacey and her colleague Celia Pasternak were very involved with the design of the spaces and included many thoughtful touches.

“The new lounge has been a wonderful treat for the staff amidst all the ongoing changes during construction,” said Chelsea Hall, RN in the Schwartz/Reisman Emergency Centre. “I think it has made staff feel appreciated, and it’s nice to know that people recognize the hard work we do every day for patients.”
