Gathering of people in a row

Congratulations to Mount Sinai Hospital’s Organ and Tissue Donation Committee who received an award for performance from Trillium Gift of Life Network for 2016/2017 Conversions. Provincial Conversion Rate Awards are presented to hospitals for meeting or exceeding the target set to convert potential organ donors to actual donors. Organ donation is a complex process and this award reflects how well hospitals work with Trillium Gift of Life Network to save lives.

Mount Sinai was one of 29 hospitals in the Province to receive this award. The Intensive Care Unit gets the credit for identifying these patients. There were two conversions that year that resulted in three new kidney transplants, two lung transplants and 10 people with enhanced vision.

April is Be a Donor Month, and Trillium Gift of Life is hoping to inspire those who haven’t registered consent to organ and tissue donation to join DONORnation and Pass It On. Registering is quick, easy and provides hope to the more than 1,500 Ontarians currently waiting for a lifesaving transplant.
