Throughout construction, we will remain open and committed to providing positive patient experiences

Emergency Department photoMount Sinai’s Schwartz/Reisman Emergency Centre serves close to 60,000 patients a year who come through our doors 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. In order to continue providing exceptional service and care, we need to evolve with the growing population and changing needs of our patients, families and clients.

That’s why we embarked on Phase 3A of Renew Sinai, the largest capital redevelopment in our hospital’s history. The expansion and redesign of the emergency department is a critical component of Phase 3A and once complete, will double the current size of our Emergency Department, and incorporate an enhanced senior-friendly design with attention to accessibility.

What’s changing?

Effective Monday, March 5, you will notice changes to the entrance of our emergency department. The east end of the emergency driveway will be closed to vehicles, and the west end of the emergency driveway will be restricted to ambulance and police vehicles only. Patients, visitors and staff can access the emergency department through:

University Avenue (open daily from 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. After hours, patients, visitors and staff are asked to enter through the Murray Street entrance)

  • NEW: Two passenger drop-off spots on University Ave. north of the emergency driveway.
  • A new 24-hour entrance now provides direct access to our emergency department.

Murray Street entrance (24-hour access to the hospital)

  • Parking is available across the street from the hospital on Murray Street.
  • A safe pedestrian walkway along the west end of the driveway provides direct access.

Directional signage clearly shows how patients, visitors and staff may enter the hospital. Click here to see a map of our entrance and walkways.
