Every day our people at Sinai Health are doing extraordinary things as we focus our efforts on COVID-19. Captured Caring is a series featuring submissions from our people to provide you with inspiration and encouragement as we care for patients and each other. Have your own story or photo to share? Submit it here.

Health care workers wearing masks, sitting in a room, in front of a large television, waiting for a video conference call to start.“Over the last several weeks our outpatient rehab team has worked tirelessly to provide rehab services for our many stroke, acquired brain injury and complex musculoskeletal patients ensuring they had the education, tools and resources to continue their rehab journey through patient self-management as we ramped down our face-to-face visits. While managing all the daily information about COVID-19, their determination and compassion to continue to provide rehab services for this population led them to discover new opportunities to be able to reach patients in their homes. They initiated and implemented a virtual rehab program including all health disciplines and the patient feedback has been extremely positive. In this photo, an interprofessional team prepares to log in to OTN for a virtual visit with a new patient.

It was a huge learning opportunity but with grit and determination they have embraced the possibilities and are confident they will continue providing a new approach to interdisciplinary care supporting complex patients through their rehab journey.”

They are looking at the camera, smiling.“It is so great to work alongside such amazing colleagues and I am truly proud of our Dentistry team for continuing to shine in such uncertain times. A woman in a face shield and scrubs and a man in a mask and scrubs standing near a reception desk in a hospital. They are holding a measuring tape extended between them.“Main desks and nursing stations can be a hectic space to practice physical distancing (especially during shift changes). Our operating room desk is a shared hub for the unit so we are measuring out a few visual markers around our desk. Stay safe!”

Two women in reflective vests and face shields looking at the camera, smiling“It is a nice opportunity to screen at the door with colleagues from different departments. In the photo two Lindas are working together at the Murray Street entrance on a Saturday. At first, family members who saw this picture thought the yellow vest meant we were parking cars!”

a woman working in a laboratory-like setting, wearing scrubs and a mask.“I’m overwhelmed with pride for my fertility team. Currently one of the only fertility labs remaining open in Ontario during this time, Mount Sinai Fertility is processing referrals for newly diagnosed oncology patients from across the province so that this special group of patients have the chance to preserve their gametes in hopes of creating their own families in the future.”
