This was followed by specialty training in heart failure, combined with an integrative cardiac physiology fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto. A well respected physician leader, Dr. Newton served as the Head of the Division of Cardiology, University Health Network and Mount Sinai Hospital, from 2009 through 2013. He was appointed Physician-in-Chief at Mount Sinai Hospital in November 2013 and assumed his current role as Chief Medical Strategy Officer and Physician-in-Chief of Sinai Health System in January 2015.

“After a thorough and significant search process, the CEO Search Committee, comprised of members of the Board of Directors and staff representatives of Sinai Health System, has unanimously chosen Dr. Gary Newton as Sinai Health System’s next President and CEO,” said Mr. Belzberg.

“Not only is Dr. Newton the best leadership candidate for the role, but he brings a wealth of experience and extensive knowledge of Sinai Health System to his new position. Dr. Newton has played an instrumental role in defining the long-term strategy for Sinai Health System, making the move to President and CEO a natural extension of his talents.”

Mr. Denison said, “We’re fortunate to also have Sinai Health System Founding President and CEO, Joseph Mapa, and Associate CEO and Transformation Officer, Marian Walsh, continuing to actively support and oversee the transition of the leadership of Sinai Health System to Dr. Newton to ensure a seamless and successful handover.”
