Pregnancy during the pandemic has been a difficult time for many expectant parents. And for those who might have complications, it can be even harder.

Earlier this year, Amanda Dueck learned that her developing baby had Spina Bifida, a condition new to her and her family. She also learned that the Ontario Fetal Centre could help with a life changing fetal surgery.

When the pandemic hit and new restrictions were being imposed, the Ontario Fetal Centre quickly shifted to offer virtual support with online appointments. Amanda was able to meet one-on-one with all physicians involved, allowing her to stay on track with appointments and book the surgery as soon as the team could see her. Read more about Amanda’s experience in this CTV Toronto feature or watch the segment here. The Ontario Fetal Centre’s first patient Romeila Son and baby Eiko are also featured in this piece.
