Dr. Shoo K. Lee
Dr. Shoo Lee is an Associate Member of the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute. Dr. Lee's acceptance of the top neonatology post at Mount Sinai was hailed as a major step forward for paediatric care in Ontario.
Dr. Lee received his medical degree from the University of Singapore, completed paediatric training at the Janeway Children's Hospital in Newfoundland and neonatal fellowship training at Children's Hospital Boston, and received his PhD in Health Policy(Economics) from Harvard University.
He established the Canadian Neonatal NetworkTM, which includes 27 hospitals and 16 universities, and the International Neonatal Collaboration to foster collaborative research, and leads the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Team in Maternal-Infant Care. Dr. Lee is involved in international collaborations that include 200 hospitals across Canada, the United States, Latin America, Europe and Asia.
His research focuses on improving quality of care, patient outcomes and health-care services delivery.
Dr. Lee has received many awards for his work, including the Knowledge Translation Award from the CIHR, the Aventis Pasteur Research Award and the Distinguished Neonatologist Award from the Canadian Paediatric Society, and the Premier Member of Honour Award from the Sociedad Iberoamericana de Neonatologia.
Under Dr. Lee's leadership, a follow-up clinic for neonatal intensive care graduates opened at Mount Sinai Hospital so that vulnerable infants can remain under the care of the specialists who guided their treatment from the moment of their birth.
Dr. Lee is also a Professor of Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and Head of the Division of Neonatology at the University of Toronto.
