In Recognition of Holocaust Education Week

Topic: “What Do We Learn from the Nazi Physicians?”

Speaker: Jack Hughes, MD and Professor of Medicine, Yale School of Medicine

Learning Objectives:

After attending this session, participants will be able to:

  • Describe several ways that German physicians participated in the Nazi enterprise and furthered the creation of the Holocaust.
  • Discuss whether the German population at the time of the Holocaust was unique, and if not, explain what characteristics shared with the remainder of the human race could permit a repetition of the Holocaust.
  • Examine whether physicians in general, not just physicians in the Nazi era, might be particularly susceptible to assenting to or even actively participating in inhuman acts.
