Topic: “What Do We Learn from the Nazi Physicians?”
Speaker: Jack Hughes, MD and Professor of Medicine, Yale School of Medicine
After attending this session, participants will be able to:
- Describe several ways that German physicians participated in the Nazi enterprise and furthered the creation of the Holocaust.
- Discuss whether the German population at the time of the Holocaust was unique, and if not, explain what characteristics shared with the remainder of the human race could permit a repetition of the Holocaust.
- Examine whether physicians in general, not just physicians in the Nazi era, might be particularly susceptible to assenting to or even actively participating in inhuman acts.
