Patients and Families BBQ at Bridgepoint

The cheerful music of steel drums and the smell of hamburgers drifted over the labyrinth terrace this week at Bridgepoint’s annual Patient and Family BBQ. More than 500 patients and their guests attended the event, enjoying perfect summer weather, live music and a lunch of burgers, salads and popsicles and all with a view overlooking Riverdale Park.

Shama, one of the guests at the event attended with her mother Mrs. Khanum, a  patient at Bridgepoint. She said it hasn’t been easy having her mother in the hospital and she appreciated the opportunity to share in this summer tradition. “Everyone is so welcoming and friendly at Bridgepoint. It has helped my mother get used to this place. With this event, I can see and meet other people in similar situations. I feel like I’m not alone. I feel stronger,” she says.

The patient and family BBQ has been a tradition at Bridgepoint for more than 20 years. The event was organized by the Therapeutic Recreation team with Food Services and made possible with the help of employees and volunteers.
