At Sinai Health, we understand that it takes a village to provide the level of patient care we are known for. We are incredibly grateful for the ways our larger community rallies around us, and we also recognize how important it is to extend our care beyond our hospital walls. Here is a snapshot of just some of the stories from the past year that show the ways that Sinai Health comes together to turn our dedication to our patients, employees, learners, physicians, scientists, and volunteers into a care-centered community, and the incredible contributions of some of our donors.

Dr. Gary Newton, President and CEO with philanthropists Miles and Kelly NadalAn $11 million gift from philanthropist Miles Nadal has transformed cardiac care at Mount Sinai Hospital. The Miles Nadal Heart Centre is at the forefront of understanding heart disease and is propelling research to better understand heart function to help address one of the most pressing health issues facing Canadians. Read more about this gift and the Miles Nadal Heart Centre.

flag raising bridgepointAt Sinai Health, we understand that access to health care means more than having an OHIP card. We want patients to feel safe in our facilities, and we understand that LGBTQ-competent caregivers can make a difference for members of those communities. This year, we covered how Mount Sinai has added a separate area to document name and pronoun from birth assigned sex and gender on intake forms in our emergency department as well as efforts to support LGBTQ seniors with an event at Bridgepoint, and celebrated Pride month with flag raising events at Mount Sinai and Bridgepoint

Party in our Crib ImageOn November 19-20, influencers and ambassadors took to social media to raise $1 million in 24 hours for the Party in Our Crib campaign. A partnership between The Canadian Shaare Zedek Hospital Foundation and Sinai Health Foundation, the campaign raised funds for over 30,000 babies at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto and Shaare Zedek Hospital in Israel. Doors Open at Bridgepoint

Bridgepoint welcomed both the local community and people from across the city into their facilities as part of Doors Open Toronto – an annual event granting an inside look at some of the city’s impressive, and sometimes mysterious buildings.

greateful hearts

Grateful Hearts is a Foundation-led program that provides patients and families with a meaningful way to acknowledge a member of the Mount Sinai care team. In July, the Grateful Hearts program reached an incredible milestone when over $1 million was raised to support research and care at Mount Sinai.

Group photo from a green initiativeThe Green Committee at Sinai Health continues to pitch in and transform our hospitals and neighbourhoods. From participating in a community clean-up to teaming up with our neighbours at Orde Street Junior School to create a pollinator garden (with thanks to TD Friends of the Environment grant) to many other internal and external initiatives, the Green Committee continue to be important community ambassadors for Sinai Health.

United Way Bake SaleAcross Sinai Health, staff came together to raise funds for the United Way. A big part of the reason all of us get behind the Greater Toronto United Way is simple – we know that agencies funded by the United Way make a big difference in the community support available to our patients when they leave our hospitals. Thanks to all of our donors, this year’s campaign raised a whopping $85,000, and was supported by 12.5% of our staff, a drastic increase over last year’s participation.
