This spring we honoured volunteers across Sinai Health System with awards ceremonies at Bridgepoint Active Healthcare, Circle of Care and Mount Sinai Hospital. The three events brought volunteers together to celebrate the importance of volunteerism and the contributions of volunteers who make a difference in the lives of patients, families, and staff.

Each of the awards ceremonies recognized volunteers for their exceptional service to the organization. Mount Sinai’s event was held in the Hennick Family Wellness Gallery where Susan Brown, Vice President, Human Resources and Chief Human Resources Officer welcomed attendees. This year’s 41award recipients included two UJA Community Volunteer Awards, as well as awards for student and adult recipients recognized for excellence and commitment. “Our recipients commit invaluable patient, staff and family support to clinics, nursing units and in research,” says Joanne Fine-Schwebel, Director of Volunteer Services.

Bridgepoint recognized 37 volunteers who reached important milestones this year. For some this was their 5th anniversary, for others it was their 30th anniversary. “Regardless of the length of time with us they have made a significant contribution to the care and rehabilitation of our patients. Whether they provide wayfinding support, spiritual care, meal assistance, support our Tzu Chi social program, help with therapeutic recreation or other tasks, we are grateful for their long term commitment and the valuable contribution they have made to patient’s quality of life,” says Theresa Shiel, manager of Volunteer Resources.

At circle of care volunteers were inspired by guest speaker Robert Bondar, Canada’s first female astronaut. Awards were given recognizing volunteers for years of service milestones and for exemplary service in specific roles including meals on wheels delivery, friendly visiting and helping with the adult day program.
