Dr. Erin Kennedy

Congratulations to Dr. Erin Kennedy on her appointment to Head of the Division of General Surgery for Sinai Health. 

A leader in surgical oncology as a colorectal surgeon and internationally recognized as an expert in patient-centred care, qualitative research methods and shared decision making in surgery, Dr. Kennedy is exceptionally well positioned to advance our strategic vision for surgery at Sinai Health.

Dr. Kennedy joined Mount Sinai Hospital in 2011 as a colorectal surgeon with a clinical interest in colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease. She is also a member of the Department of Surgical Oncology at Princess Margaret Hospital and the Ontario GI Cancers Lead, Disease Pathway Management Program at Cancer Care Ontario.

Dr. Kennedy is an Associate Professor, Department of Surgery and Associate Professor, the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto. She leads a clinical research program in patient-centred care in oncology with the main focus to develop, evaluate and implement strategies to improve patient care in terms of quality, safety and efficiency. Dr. Kennedy holds several peer-reviewed research grants from funding agencies such as Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR) and Cancer Care Ontario (CCO).

Having successfully developed a wide collaborative network both locally, provincially and nationally, Dr. Kennedy has led several multidisciplinary initiatives that include development and implementation of a synoptic MRI report for rectal cancer across Ontario. This quality-improvement project aims to standardize use of MRI, MCC, surgical and pathology techniques across Canada.
