Systemic Bias and Racism Speaker Series: Inclusive Environments and Invisible Minorities | Virtual

June 29, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Our work environments are made up of smart, well-intentioned people who want to be inclusive of everyone. However, our workplace culture often defaults to norms from a long history of equating whiteness with professionalism, masculinity with competence, and cisgender/straight experiences with universal life realities. Together, we will reactivate our awareness and efforts toward dismantling workplace cultures that fuel exclusion. We will explore common scenarios of 2SLGBTQ+ folks and racialized people who find themselves at the margins of progressive organizations that have already adopted equity frameworks. This talk will also consider strategic ways to shift our workplace culture with new intentions and strategic actions.
