Joel Reitman, C.M. is the founder and president of Jillcy Capital Corp. a global investment firm. He co-founded the advertising company MIJO Corporation and served as its president and Chief Executive Officer from 1978 until March 2011, when the firm was sold to DG Fast Channel.
Joel is a co-founder of The Cyril & Dorothy, Joel & Jill Reitman Centre for Alzheimer’s Support and Training at Mount Sinai Hospital. He is a member of the steering committee for the Tanz Centre for research in neurodegenerative diseases at Toronto Western Hospital. Joel has recently been appointed to the board of the Brain Canada Foundation, who plays a unique and invaluable role as a national convenor of those who support and advance brain research.
Joel is an active volunteer in the Jewish Community. He has a long history of involvement with the Canadian Jewish Political Affairs Committee (CJPAC) as National Chair from 2009 – 2011. Joel served as National Co-Chair of the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) from 2018 – 2022, as well as a Vice President of the World Jewish Congress. Currently, Joel is President and Chair of the Jerusalem Foundation of Canada, which seeks to shape the future of Jerusalem by investing in and creating a flourishing city as a source of inspiration for its people and the world.
On June 29, 2022, Joel was appointed as a member of the Order of Canada, for his outstanding service to Canada. In 2013 Joel was awarded the Jewish Federation of Canada – UIA CHAI Award in recognition of his dedication to strengthening Jewish life and Jewish identity in Canada, Israel and throughout the world. He was also presented with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal by Prime Minister Stephen Harper in 2013.
Joel received his Bachelor of Science in Educational Communications from Ithaca College. He is a graduate of Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, Massachusetts.
