What to Bring to Mount Sinai
Learn more about what to bring with you to the hospital, and what can stay at home.
Being prepared for your visit helps ensure a smooth and comfortable experience. What you should bring depends on the reason for your visit.
Outpatient clinic visit
- Health (OHIP) card or valid health-care coverage
- A list of your current medication
- A list of questions you may have
- Anything else that has been specified by your physician or clinic
Pre-surgery visit to the Pre-Admission Unit
- Health (OHIP) card or valid health care coverage
- Policy information for additional health insurance, if applicable
- Your current medications, including vitamins or herbal supplements, in their original bottles
- The name, address and phone number of your family physician
- The name, address and phone number of any other medical specialists you are seeing
- Copies of any recent tests and a consult letter from the medical specialist(s), if applicable
- A copy of your completed pre-admission questionnaire and pre-operative health questionnaire, as well as any other documents your surgeon may have given you
- If you are not fluent in English, please connect with your surgical team to arrange a translator

Surgery
- Health (OHIP) card or valid health care coverage
- Any additional health insurance and policy information
- A method of payment (Visa, Mastercard, Interac or cash)
- Containers for hearing aids, dentures, glasses or contacts, as these must be removed before surgery
- Two reusable bags (one large enough for your shoes and one large enough for your clothes) that can fit into our lockers, which are four feet in height and one foot in width
- Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine, if you use one
If you are staying overnight, please also bring:
- Overnight personal items and toiletry items, such as a robe/dressing gown, toothbrush or toothpaste

Overnight or extended stay
- Health (OHIP) card or valid health-care coverage
- Identification showing your name, address and date of birth
- Secondary insurance coverage information (if applicable)
- All medication you are currently taking, in the original bottles, including vitamin or herbal supplements
- Toiletry items such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, brush/comb, shaving equipment, shampoo and deodorant
- Cotton pajamas with a button-down top
- Slippers
- Housecoat or dressing gown
- Glasses, hearing aids, and dentures
You may wish to bring a small amount of cash, however, please leave valuables at home. Electric razors and hair dryers are the only electrical grooming devices permitted.
