What to expect from us during your care and your responsibility as a patient.

At Sinai Health, I expect to be treated with dignity and respect with fair and equitable access to the support and services I need. I value receiving care in a safe and welcoming environment from a team that respectfully communicates with me.

My Care Needs 

During my care experience, I expect to:

  • Receive high-quality, safe, personalized compassionate care.
  • Have the same people on my care team when possible.
  • Have a care team that understands my health story.
  • Have my symptoms and pain viewed as real.
  • Be respected for the decisions I make about my care.

My responsibility as a patient is to:

  • Be involved in setting goals for my care.
  • Understand that I will be asked to provide consent throughout my care.
  • Know that my health information will be shared with the care team so they understand my health story.
  • Understand that I am sharing a treatment space and care team with others. 

Communicate With Me

During my care experience, I expect to:

  • Have care providers who listen to my concerns.
  • Talk with my care team about my
    treatment and needs.
  • Have time with my care team to ask
    questions and have my requests heard and followed up.
  • Have my care team knock before entering, wear their ID badge, and introduce themselves and their role.
  • Discuss care in a language I understand best.
  • Have up-to-date information that is clear and I understand.

My responsibility as a patient is to:

  • Reach out when I need more support.
  • Ask questions to understand my health and treatment.
  • Let my care team know what language I prefer to use and supports I may need.
  • Identify to the care team which family caregivers can receive my health updates.

Involve and Engage Me

During my care experience, I expect to:

  • Take part in my cultural and spiritual practices.
  • Reach my highest level of independence.
  • Know about research projects and have the choice to take part in them.

My responsibility as a patient is to:

  • Share what my cultural and spiritual practices are with the care team.
  • Partner with my care team so I can reach my highest level of independence.

My Privacy

During my care experience, I expect to:

  • Have my personal information kept in a safe space.
  • Have my care team use a quiet voice, so our talk is private.
  • Receive as much privacy as possible during care procedures.

My responsibility as a patient is to:

  • Give privacy to others when sharing space when possible.
  • Ask for consent before recording or taking pictures to ensure privacy for all.
