Dr. Aaron Pollett

Dr. Aaron Pollett is the Interim Chief of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and Medical Director, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Sinai Health. He is also Provincial Head, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Program at Ontario Health; Co-Director, Division of Diagnostic Medical Genetics at Sinai Health; and an associate professor in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology at the University of Toronto (U of T).

Education

Dr. Pollett earned his medical degree from the University of Ottawa. He completed his residency in Anatomical Pathology at U of T and a fellowship in Gastrointestinal Pathology at Mount Sinai Hospital. He then earned a master’s degree in Health Policy, Management and Evaluation from U of T, reflecting his longstanding interest in pathology informatics.

Research

Dr. Pollett’s specialty interests are gastrointestinal pathology and pathology informatics, with a focus on colorectal cancer and biomarker implementation. He serves as review pathologist for the Familial Gastrointestinal Cancer Registry (FGICR) and the Ontario Familial Colon Cancer Registry (OFCCR), tumour-based registries that analyze the genetic basis of gastrointestinal cancers.

Awards and recognition

In 2024, Dr. Pollett received the Ontario Public Service Amethyst Award for Advancing Ontario’s Genetic Strategy: Building a Provincial Genetics Program. In 2022, he received the University of Toronto’s Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology Distinguished Service Award, the Ontario Association of Pathologists Distinguished Pathologist Award, and a Certificate in AI for Clinical Champions from the Michener Institute.
