Dr. David Gratzer is the Psychiatrist-in-Chief for Sinai Health and an associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto’s Temerty Faculty of Medicine.

Education

Dr. Gratzer earned his medical degree from the University of Manitoba and completed psychiatry training at the University of Toronto (U of T). His postgradate training includes the Advanced Health Leadership Program and the Veterans Affairs Quality Scholars program, both at U of T. Most recently, he graduated from Health AI Academy, a national training initiative that trains health professionals in the use of artificial intelligence and advanced analytics in health care.

Research and writing

Dr. Gratzer’s research focuses on health systems improvement and the responsible use of digital technologies in mental health care. He is widely published in peer-reviewed journals, has written several book chapters, and contributes regularly to national and international discussions on mental health policy and innovation. He serves as an associate editor for JMIR Mental Health and is a founding member of the App Advisor Expert Panel for the American Psychiatric Association.

Awards and recognition

Dr. Gratzer has received numerous teaching and education awards, including the Temerty Faculty of Medicine’s Ivan Silver Innovation Award. His Reading of the Week program, which aims to bridge the gap between research and clinical practice, has grown to include partnerships with 15 Canadian postgraduate psychiatry programs and several others internationally.
