General Radiography (X-Ray)
We use small amounts of radiation to create images of your bones, tissues and internal organs.
What we do
An X-ray (also called general radiography) is a type of medical imaging that uses small amounts of ionizing radiation to create images of your bones, tissues and internal organs.
It’s a non-invasive test that helps physicians diagnose and treat things like bone injury or disease, infections and arthritis. X-rays are the oldest and most commonly used form of medical imaging.
No appointments are required for general x-rays.
What to expect
The time it takes for your X-ray will depend on the type of X-ray you are getting. Be prepared to spend 10 to 30 minutes in the examination room.
As this is a walk-in service, there may be a wait, especially if there are unexpected emergencies. We recommend that you come prepared for delays of one hour or more.
You may be asked to remove your clothing, jewelry and other items covering the area being x-rayed. We will provide a hospital gown if needed.
Note that female patients aged 10 to 55 will be asked if there is any chance of pregnancy. If there is a chance of pregnancy, we will not do the x-ray until pregnancy is ruled out. If you are pregnant and the X-ray is necessary, your doctor will talk to you about the risk of ionizing radiation exposure, and you will need to sign a consent form.
If you wish to have another doctor other than your referring doctor copied on the results report, please let the receptionist know before your test.
A report will be sent to your physician within 10 days.
