Visiting the NICU
Family and friends are welcome to visit NICU in the presence of a parent.
Visitors must be more than 16 years of age with the exception of siblings who must be more than two years of age.
All family guests must be accompanied by one parent and there can be a maximum of two people (including the parent) at any baby’s bedside. Three people are allowed if one of them is a young sibling.
At times, the NICU may limit visiting to parents or alternate caregivers to protect your baby from potential infections. In these situations, every effort will be made to notify parents of this temporary change in the visiting policy.
Lockers for outerwear
Outerwear like coats and large bags are not permitted inside the NICU. There are lockers outside the NICU and in the family lounge. Please bring your own lock.
Infection control policies
We are careful to protect all the NICU babies from exposure to infection. It is important that you observe the following infection control policies.
Hand washing is an important part of infection prevention. This includes thoroughly washing your hands and not wearing anything that can contain bacteria.
The NICU is:
- Nail polish and artificial nail-free
- Scent-free
- Jewelry and watch-free
Before entering the NICU, thoroughly wash your hands at the hand washing sink just inside the doors.
Masks are required in patient rooms and no food or drink is allowed.

Scent-free policy
Scents from perfumes, aftershaves and other personal care products can bother some people with allergies and other conditions. Please avoid wearing scented products when you visit.
