Endontics

Dr. Shrestha is a full-time assistant professor and principal investigator in the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto. She is cross appointed in Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology, University of Toronto and Department of Dentistry at the Mt. Sinai Hospital, Toronto. She is a clinician scientist, teaches undergraduate and graduate dental students. She maintains an independent laboratory with research focus on role of dendritic cells in apical periodontitis pathogenesis and healing complicated with metabolic diseases. Further she focuses to expand on immunomodulation by utilizing biomaterials to achieve better therapeutics. Dr. Shrestha obtained her dental degree from Nepal (2005), M.Sc. research from Singapore (2009), and Ph.D. in Nanobiomaterials (2013) and M.Sc. (Endodontics) (2017) from the University of Toronto.

She is a clinician scientist, teaches undergraduate and graduate dental students. She maintains an independent laboratory with research focus on dendritic cell immunomodulation using novel injectable hydrogels. Immune dysbiosis in chronic oral infections and metabolic disease; cell mechanosensing; nano/biomaterials and 3D hydrogels for cell modulation are some of the key areas. Her lab is funded by several independent grants. She has published over 30 peer-reviewed journal publications, 5 book chapters and presented over 30 research and invited presentations in international forum. She currently serves as the chair of the AAE Regenerative Endodontics Committee, scientific advisory board of the Journal of Endodontics, Frontiers in Dentistry and Associate Editor of the Restorative Dentistry and Endodontics.
