Leadership in stroke care – Hennick Bridgepoint earns Stroke Distinction

Stroke Distinction is a rigorous and highly specialized program that follows standards based on Canadian Stroke Best Practices and in-depth, stroke specific performance indicators and protocols.

“Congratulations! The stroke team at Hennick Bridgepoint is made up a interdisciplinary group and each of you bring your unique role and experiences to the program. That collaboration allows us to continuously improve and support our patients and all their unique needs,” said Jackie Eli, Senior Clinical Program Director, Rehabilitation and Ambulatory Care at Hennick Bridgepoint.

Following the on-site visit in September, the two external peer surveyors representing Accreditation Canada commended Hennick Bridgepoint’s stroke team for its outstanding commitment to excellence and innovation in stroke services. They applauded the team for their strong culture of measurement and quality improvement that showcase the program as a leader in the health system.

“The team is committed to embedding evidence in their practice, generating new knowledge and are committed to quality improvement and ongoing professional development,” adds Jackie.

As part of the surveyors visit, they met with members of the inpatient and ambulatory care teams to evaluate the program at Hennick Bridgepoint. The teams demonstrated the protocols and procedures they use to deliver exceptional care, the tools they use for patient and family education and innovative projects underway to continue improving future outcomes.

The surveyors also met with a number of community partners and stakeholders to learn about the hospital’s role within the broader stroke and health-care community and partnerships aimed at improving stroke care services.

Following the assessment, the surveyors provided feedback on successes and challenged the teams to continue to advance the program.
