The Rogers Hixon Ontario Human Milk Bank achieves Accreditation
Congratulations to the staff at the Rogers Hixon Ontario Human Milk Bank who have successfully achieved annual accreditation by the Human Milk Banking Association of North America (HMBANA).
Our Milk Bank collects, pasteurizes and distributes donated breast milk for hospitalized preterm babies in NICU’s across Ontario. Donor milk is known to reduce the rate of a life threatening bowel infection in pre-term babies.
Donor milk goes through a very rigorous safety and infection control process in our facility on the 18th floor at Mount Sinai, and the Milk Bank team achieved 100 per cent compliance for the 149 HMBANA guidelines.
This achievement is a testament to the dedication of Debbie Stone, Manager, Rogers Hixon Ontario Human Milk Bank, and Dr. Sharon Unger, Medical Director, Rogers Hixon Ontario Human Milk Bank and all the staff that help to manage and support this very important program.
