Overview
Dr. Vanessa Bacal is a Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) Specialist at Mount Sinai Fertility and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Toronto.
A graduate of McGill University’s medical program, she completed her obstetrics and gynaecology residency at the University of Ottawa. There, she earned a master's degree (MSc) in epidemiology, followed by a fellowship in REI at the University of Toronto.
Since joining Mount Sinai Fertility, Dr. Bacal has been instrumental in advancing care for people experiencing early and recurrent pregnancy loss. She created and leads the early pregnancy loss program and the recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) program. These programs offer rapid access and compassionate assessment for patients facing these challenges.
Her research focuses on the endometrial, infectious and genetic contributions of pregnancy losses and infertility. She is actively engaged in studying loss management and improving access to timely care for patients facing infertility.
Dr. Bacal is known for her people-centred, empowering approach; she says her role is “to help direct decision‑making in a comforting atmosphere,” reflecting her commitment to supportive, evidence-based care.
