Transforming cancer imaging with AI 

Our team is using machine learning and artificial intelligence methods to analyze medical images and improve the detection, diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Our goal is to develop imaging biomarkers, measurable features seen on MRI and CT scans, that can help diagnose cancer earlier, predict its response to therapy and guide treatment decisions for prostate cancer, pancreatic cancer and other abdominal malignancies.  

In prostate cancer, we have developed AI tools that can automatically identify and outline the prostate and areas of cancer sites on multi-parametric MRI scans. These tools help make image interpretation more consistent and support more personalized treatment planning.  

In pancreatic cancer, we are studying how features seen on medical images relate to the biology of the tumour, specifically its immediate tissue surrounding, known as the tumour microenvironment. By understanding these connections, we aim to create non-invasive ways to assess the tumour microenvironment are improve the early detection.  

Our computational image analysis pipeline incorporates the expertise of radiologists, pathologists and oncologists around medical imaging enabling us to translate medical imaging data into clinically useful information.
