President and Chief Executive Officer, RioCan

As President and Chief Executive Officer of RioCan, Jonathan Gitlin leads one of Canada’s largest and longest-standing real estate investment trusts. RioCan’s highly adaptable portfolio comprises retail-focused, increasingly mixed-use properties in Canada’s major markets. Jonathan focuses on delivering sustainable growth, supporting RioCan’s position as an industry leader in ESG practices, and fostering a results-driven corporate culture, underpinned by a clear strategy to drive unitholder value.  

An active figure in the community, Jonathan has deep ties to Sinai Health. In 2019, he and his wife Stacy founded the annual Spin for Sinai event in support of Inflammatory Bowel Disease care, fellowships, and research. He has served on committees for Sinai Health Board and Vice Chair at large of the Sinai Health Foundation.  

In addition, Jonathan is a founding member of the ILEO Initiative with United Way Greater Toronto, Chair of the UJA Federation of Greater Toronto’s annual Walk with Israel, on the committee for The York School, and chaired Hold ‘em For Life Charity Challenge for several years.

Prior to joining RioCan in 2005, Jonathan was a real estate lawyer at McCarthy Tétrault LLP. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Western University and a Bachelor of Laws degree from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University.
