Dr. Maxim (Max) Ben-Yakov is Chief, Emergency Medicine at Sinai Health. He is also an assistant professor in the Department of Medicine at the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto (U of T).

Education

Dr. Ben-Yakov earned his medical degree at McGill University. He completed his emergency medicine residency and paediatric emergency medicine fellowship at U of T, and is dual-certified in both specialties through the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. His postgraduate training also includes a Master of Health Informatics from the University of Waterloo and a Certificate in Artificial Intelligence in Health Care from the MIT Sloan School of Management Executive Program.

Research

Dr. Ben-Yakov’s research focuses on health system transformation through clinical informatics, with a particular emphasis on improving patient and provider experience. He has presented and published nationally and internationally.

Awards and recognition

Dr. Ben-Yakov has received numerous awards in emergency medicine, digital innovation and teaching, including the Ontario Centre of Innovation Digital Transformation Award. He was named one of Toronto’s Top Emergency Physicians in 2025.
