Dr. Rita Kandel
Dr. Kandel is the Chief of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Sinai Health and a Professor and Chair of the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology at the University of Toronto.
She is a Professor at the University of Toronto in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology, cross-appointed to the Department of Surgery and a member of the Institute of Biomaterials and Biomedical Engineering. A fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences, Dr. Kandel is also Director of Collaborative Program in Musculoskeletal Sciences at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Kandel is on the Executive Committee of the Sarcoma site group, Canadian Cancer Society Research Institute and is the Pathology representative on the Cancer Care Ontario Sarcoma Disease Site Group and Program in Evidence Based Care for Sarcoma Practice Guidelines. Her clinical expertise is in the diagnosis of soft tissue and bone tumors.
Dr. Kandel is a clinician-scientist and Director of the Bioengineering of Skeletal Tissues Team, which consists of a multidisciplinary group of investigators, including engineers, biologists, stem cell biologists, and clinicians whose work focuses on regenerative medicine.
She is currently a Board Member Elect of Osteoarthritis Research Society International. Dr. Kandel is also Associate Editor of Cartilage and a member of the Editorial Board of Osteoarthritis and Cartilage.
