Dr. Tony Mazzulli
Dr. Mazzulli is the Microbiologist-in-Chief for Sinai Health. He is also the Infectious Diseases Consultant in the Department of Microbiology at Mount Sinai Hospital and University Health Network and the Acting Head, Division of Microbiology, at the University of Toronto. He is a Professor in the Department of Medicine and a Professor and Clinician Investigator in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology at the University of Toronto. He holds a certificate of special competence in Infectious Diseases. He is also a consulting Medical Microbiologist at the Public Health Ontario Laboratories.
He is an Advisor to the Subcommittee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing, Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute in the United States, the Vice-Chair, Specialty Committee in Medical Microbiology, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and Councillor, Association of Medical Microbiologists and Infectious Diseases Canada.
Education
Dr. Mazzulli received his MD from the University of Toronto and is a licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the American College of Physicians, and the American Board of Internal Medicine. He received a Fellowship from the Medical Research Council from 1991 to 1993.
Research
Dr. Mazzulli’s primary research interests are in the study of antimicrobial resistance in community acquired infections, such as respiratory and urinary tract infections, and the diagnosis and management of viral infections. He has received grant funding from the Canadian Institute for Health Research, National Institute of Health and The Physician Services Incorporated Foundation. He has published 150 articles in peer reviewed journals as well as book chapters and other teaching materials. He serves as a reviewer for several granting agencies including: Canadian Blood Services Grants Review Panel, Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research, Canadian Institutes of Health Research Grants Competition and Medical Research Council of Canada.

Awards and recognition
Dr. Mazzulli has received several teaching awards for undergraduate and postgraduate education from the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Toronto; including the Distinguished Service Award from the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology.
