Dr. Maureen Shandling
Dr. Maureen Shandling is a practicing neurologist and has been a medical staff member of Mount Sinai Hospital and the University of Toronto since 1988. She has held a wide range of hospital leadership roles including Medical Education, Physician Affairs, Diagnostic Imaging, Accreditation Lead, and Quality and Safety programs. Dr. Shandling’s leadership experience spans clinical teaching, educational administration, research, and program development in quality and safety initiatives.
As a key contributor to the formation of Sinai Health, Dr. Shandling led the integration of medical staff and development of new clinical programs through partnership with teams working across Mount Sinai and Hennick Bridgepoint Hospitals.
She is a Full Professor of Medicine in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto where she served as Mount Sinai’s Internal Medicine Residency Program Director, and then the University of Toronto Associate Dean, Student Admissions and Financial Services.
Maureen has participated in and led a number of national and international initiatives in medical education, including as a member of the MR-5 (MCAT Revision) Committee of the Association of American Medical Colleges and Chair of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Committee on Specialties. She is currently a member of the National Steering Committee of the Future of Medical Education in Canada, Co-Chair of the Transitions to Practice Committee, and a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Subspecialty Committee.
Additionally, Maureen is a member of the Council of Academic Hospitals of Ontario Practice and Education Committee (CAHO), the CAHO ARTIC Task Force and the Toronto Academic Health Sciences Network (TAHSN) Medical Affairs Committee.
