We work closely with oral pathologists, facial pain clinicians and prosthodontists to treat disorders and abnormalities of the face, mouth and neck.
What we do

We have extensive expertise in a wide range of procedures, including the following:
- Benign tumor management
- Rehabilitation of the jaw with dental implants
- Correction of facial deformities
- Surgical management of the temporomandibular (TMJ) joint, including arthroscopy and joint replacements
- Bone grafting of the jaws
- Reconstruction of bone, nerves and soft tissue of the jaws
- Repairs of cleft lip, cleft palate and other dentofacial deformities
- Managing facial trauma
What to expect
Before your appointment, we will ask you to complete a patient health questionnaire to help us understand your medical history and needs. Please bring the completed questionnaire with you to your first appointment.
At your first appointment, we will talk to you about your symptoms and concerns. An oral surgeon may examine your head, neck and face. We may also take X-rays as part of your visit.
Depending on your specific condition, your surgery may take place on the same day as your first appointment. Most procedures take place in our clinic. Procedures that require deep sedation may be done in an operating room at Mount Sinai Hospital.
We will give you instructions before your first appointment to prepare for surgery, if needed. It is important that you follow these instructions carefully.
Please note we are a teaching hospital, so you may see medical students, residents or other medical trainees as part of your care. Learners are supervised by other members of our dedicated health-care team who work together to provide you with comprehensive care.
Please be aware that most dental treatments are not covered by OHIP and you will be required to pay for your dental care. See our dentistry fees for more information.
