Vero Scribe Artificial Intelligence (AI) Scribe
Sinai Health is introducing Vero Scribe, a secure, AI-powered medical scribe that listens during your visit so that your care provider can focus more on you and less on documentation during your in-person, phone or virtual appointments.
Vero Scribe listens to your visit and helps your provider create a draft summary note. Your provider reviews and edits that draft before it becomes part of your official medical record. The tool is only used after your provider asks for and receives your verbal consent at the start of each appointment.
Vero Scribe is used by staff physicians and nurse practitioners. At this time, residents (physicians-in-training) will not be using the tool.
If you have questions, please ask your provider at your next visit or speak with a member of our clinic team.
Consent
Your provider will ask for your verbal permission before using the recording feature in Vero Scribe on their electronic device.
- You may decline or withdraw your consent at any time
- Your care will not be affected if you say “no” or decline to participate
Here’s an example of what your provider might say:
“As a reminder, I use an AI scribe to help me take notes during our appointment. Do you give me permission to use it? Do you have any questions before I turn it on?”
Protecting your privacy
Vero Scribe meets all necessary privacy and security requirements to keep your information secure. Here's how your information is protected:
- All data is encrypted and protected during use
- Vero Scribe does not use patient data to train or improve its system
- Any temporary audio or text is deleted within 30 days
- Finalized notes are only stored in your medical record
Are there any risks?
As with any technology, there may be occasional limitations, such as:
- Transcription errors, for example due to background noise or multiple speakers
- Occasional technical issues where incorrect details may be added to the note (sometimes called "hallucinations)
Your physician or nurse practitioner is still expected to review every note for accuracy and make any necessary corrections, just as they would when documenting without an AI scribe.
