Mouth Clinic
We specialize in diagnosing and treating diseases of the oral cavity.
What we do
The Mouth Clinic specializes in treating patients with rare and difficult-to-diagnose diseases.
This includes diseases of the oral cavity (or mouth), such as non-cancerous tumours, precancerous conditions and other disorders that affect the skin and lining of the mouth.
Our clinic is run by the departments of Dentistry and Otolaryngology and is staffed by both dental specialists called oral pathologists and otolaryngologists (ENT physicians).
What to expect
When you arrive at Mount Sinai Hospital, you have to first go to Dentistry to register for your Mouth Clinic appointment. You will then be directed to Otolaryngology for your appointment.
Your visit to the Mouth Clinic may include diagnostic testing such as blood work, imaging or a biopsy, as well as a consultation with both an oral pathologist and an otolaryngologist.
On average, appointments can last up to three hours.
Most diagnostic procedures and treatments, including biopsies or minor surgeries, take place in-clinic and will be done during your appointment.
Your physician will work with you to design a treatment plan tailored to your needs. This may include regular follow-up visits for monitoring, medication or minor surgery to remove diseased tissue.
If cancer is diagnosed, you will be referred to the Otolaryngology Clinic.
Please note we are a teaching hospital, so you may see medical students, residents or fellows as part of your care. Learners are supervised by other members of our dedicated health-care team who work together to provide you with comprehensive care.
