Outpatient Labs
We collect high-quality blood, urine and stool samples to test for health conditions.
What we do
Our Outpatient Labs collect blood, urine and stool samples for laboratory testing to help monitor and diagnose health conditions.
We collect high-quality samples that meet all laboratory requirements to support a smooth testing process. On a typical day, we see more than 200 patients.
What to expect
You only need an Outpatient Lab appointment for the glucose tolerance test (GTT). If you need to change or adjust this appointment, please contact your health-care provider. For all other tests, you do not need an appointment. Go directly to the Outpatient Lab and take a number when you arrive.
Before we collect your sample, we will ask you a few questions to confirm your identity. Our team will then give you instructions based on the type of sample needed and will direct you to a cubicle when it is your turn.
If you are getting a blood test, the technician will make every effort to reduce any discomfort. With a single blood draw, the technician can fill all the vials or tubes needed for the tests requested by your physician. The same needle stays in your arm while the different vials are filled. If you feel faint, dizzy or unwell at any time during the blood draw, please tell the technician right away.
After your blood is drawn, the technician will:
- Ask you to press on the spot where the needle went in with a cotton ball to help reduce bruising
- Put a bandage over the area once any bleeding has stopped.
If you notice bleeding after you leave, please return to the blood collection lab. If you notice bruising, apply ice or a warm compress to the area. Any bruising should go away within a few days.
Your samples will be sent to the laboratory for testing, and the results will be sent to your physician electronically. You can also access your results through MyChart™.
