Medical Psychiatry Clinic
We provide specialized mental health support to patients being treated for a physical illness.
What we do
Our Medical Psychiatry Clinic team sees patients who are currently under the care of a specialist at Mount Sinai Hospital and also experiencing a mental illness that may complicate their care.
Our interprofessional team works alongside medical and surgical colleagues across different specialties including endocrinology, diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), oncology, chronic pain, palliative care and more.
We also offer a dedicated clinic for people living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and mental illness, providing comprehensive care in partnership with community organizations.
What to expect
At your first appointment, a clinician will ask about your current symptoms, feelings, experiences, treatment history and how these affect your daily life.
Your clinician will work with you to create a care plan tailored to your needs. Your care plan may include:
- Medication options
- Psycho-social interventions
- Individual or group therapies
- Recommendations for educational tools and self-help resources
- Guidance on accessing financial or housing support, if this is right for you
Our team will also keep your referring physician informed about your care plan.
Please note we are a teaching hospital, so you may see medical students, residents or other medical trainees as part of your care team. Learners are supervised by other members of our dedicated health-care team who work together to provide you with comprehensive care.
AI transcription tools
Medical Psychiatry Clinic care providers may use ScribeBerry, an AI transcription tool or “AI scribe,” during your visit. ScribeBerry securely captures notes from your conversation so your care provider can focus more on you and less on paperwork.
Your provider will always ask for your verbal consent before using this tool and will carefully review and edit all notes before they are added to your medical record.
For more information about AI transcription tools, please see our Patient Privacy page.
What to bring
- Health (OHIP) card or valid health-care coverage
- A list of your current medications
- A support person, if desired
