Male Infertility Clinic
We assess and treat complex male infertility issues.
As many as one in six couples have difficulty conceiving. In some cases, the issue stems from not having enough healthy sperm or not having sperm that move well.
What we do
Our Male Infertility Clinic care team specializes in assessing and treating patients with complex male infertility issues and sees patients from across Canada.
We conduct the following in-depth testing to figure out the cause of infertility:
- Genetic testing
- Endocrine testing and therapy
- Semen analysis
- DNA fragmentation testing
- Sperm aneuploidy testing
- Diagnostic imaging
The following sperm retrieval and surgical procedures are performed to help increase fertility:
- Microdissection testicular sperm extraction (MicroTESE) to retrieve sperm
- Percutaneous epididymal sperm aspiration (PESA) to retrieve sperm
- Testicular sperm aspiration (TESA) to retrieve sperm
- Vasoepididymostomy and vasectomy reversal
- Varicocelectomy to remove enlarged scrotal veins
- Electroejaculation (EEJ) and vibrostimulation to stimulate ejaculation
What to expect
You will meet with a urologist to discuss your medical history and any questions or concerns you may have. The urologist will work with you to develop a care plan that may include any of the following:
- Blood and urine tests
- Diagnostic imaging tests
- Genetic testing
- Endocrine tests
- Semen analysis
- Surgery
If surgery is recommended, please note that not all procedures are covered by OHIP. Our infertility clinic care team will discuss all of your options with you.
We can also coordinate treatment with an in vitro fertilization (IVF) clinic, if desired.
As part of your treatment, we may consider whether you qualify to take part in a clinical trial. We will talk to you about the risks and benefits of helping to test innovative new therapies that are still in the experimental stage.
Please note that we are a teaching hospital, so you may see medical students, residents or other medical trainees as part of your care. Learners are supervised by other members of our dedicated health-care team who work together to provide you with comprehensive care.
What to bring
- Health (OHIP) card or valid health-care coverage
- Any recent fertility test results you’ve received
- A list of your current medications
- A list of questions you want to ask
- Your partner, if desired
