Interprofessional Education
“Interprofessional education occurs when two or more professions learn about, from, and with each other to enable effective collaboration and improve health outcomes.”
World Health Organization (2010)
When different health-care providers work together to care for patients, patient outcomes improve. Interprofessional education (IPE) teaches health-care providers and students the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed for collaborative practice.
IPE learners can expect to discover:
- Differences and similarities in various health-care roles
- The values and approaches of different health disciplines
- The importance of team building, interprofessional communication and conflict resolution
- How to build and maintain healthy interprofessional relationships
Sinai Health offers a variety of interprofessional education opportunities for learners and preceptors. These include presentations, workshops, structured placements, flexible activities and interprofessional shadowing.
