Research Participation Opportunities for Our People

Learn about current research opportunities looking for participants.

Sinai Health is an academic health sciences centre, fully affiliated with the University of Toronto. As part of the Toronto Academic Health Science Network, our mandate is to lead in providing safe, high-quality care, accelerating discoveries, finding solutions and applying innovations.

Below are some current research opportunities that Sinai Health’s people (employees, physicians, scientists, learners and volunteers) may be interested in participating in. These studies have been approved by the Research Ethics Board.

Would you or someone you know like to help older adults who may be socially isolated or have feelings of loneliness due to the pandemic?

Can you commit to volunteering for one to two shifts per week for four months?

Are you comfortable facilitating phone conversations?

Sinai Health is partnering with the Schwartz/Reisman Emergency Medicine Institute and North York General Hospital on this volunteer program which is part of an ongoing research study.

Interested and looking for ways to get involved? Please email: [email protected]. Interested participants will be asked to sign a consent form.

Dr. Jordan Lerner-Ellis is leading the Bridge2AI-Voice as a Biomarker of Health study at Mount Sinai Hospital. There is an increased interest in using voice in the diagnosis of disease, yet current databases are limited in size.

The Bridge2AI-Voice study seeks to build a large open-science database to fuel artificial intelligence research related to voice. The database will include:

  • Human voices
  • Speech and respiratory sounds
  • Other health data, like past medical history and medication use
  • Associated metadata

Participants will be asked to complete a variety of cognitive tasks and questionnaires and will have their voice, speech, and respiratory sound data collected. They will be given the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, a quick screening tool used to detect mild cognitive impairment. The whole process will take from 75 - 120 minutes to complete, depending on the tasks associated with their disease category. Participants will be compensated for their involvement.

We are currently recruiting individuals with neurological and neurodegenerative diseases. Participants must be:

  • Between ages of 44 - 85
  • Able to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Consent to provide a voice/speech sample
  • Diagnosed with one of the following conditions:
    • Alzheimer's disease
    • Parkinson's disease
    • Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
    • Mild Cognitive Impairment or other types of dementia

Please contact the Bridge2AI research team at 416-586-4800 ext. 4434 or email [email protected] for more information or if you are interested in participating.
