Three photos in a collage of Sinai Health people

Every day our people at Sinai Health are doing extraordinary things. Captured Caring is a series featuring submissions from our people to provide you with inspiration and encouragement as we care for patients and each other.

On June 11, Sinai Health hosted our annual Education Celebration at Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital. Excellence in Education Awards were distributed to 19 exceptional teachers, as well as to three education leaders and a collaborative team. The event was attended by Sinai Health's leaders and people from all over the organization, as well as nominees, students, team members, and families. Thank you to all of our teachers, preceptors, and those who support learners throughout Sinai Health!

On June 2, the teams on 4 South at Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital and 12 South at Mount Sinai Hospital participated in a "What Matters?" Day celebration to learn more about the “What Matters?” pillar of an Age-Friendly Health System.

Suzette Ferguson-James, a Registered Nurse on 12 South, shares that when she asked one of her patients, “What matters most to you?” the patient replied, “Food”, and named some of their favourite cultural dishes. Suzette connected with the Dietary Services team to explore culturally appropriate meal options and add extra snacks to the patient’s meal plan. This demonstrates how a single question can lead to meaningful, person-centred care.

During a daily huddle on 4 South, Dr. Siobhan McCurdie shared that a patient felt anxious when they could not see certain medical equipment at the bedside. To help alleviate this anxiety, the equipment was moved into the patient’s line of sight so they could better understand what was happening. Dr. McCurdie also documented this preference on the patient’s whiteboard so the whole care team could consistently support this small but meaningful action that contributed to the patient’s well-being.

Nurses, physicians and professionals in the health disciplines at both campuses continue to proudly share examples of how they act on what matters most to their patients and care partners. We look forward to sharing more of these stories and further embedding “What Matters?” conversations and documentation into daily care.

On May 31, Team Sinai walked in the 30th Annual Gutsy Walk with Crohn's and Colitis Canada, in support of IBD research. Our team raised nearly $70,000!

Each year, Sinai Health's Corporate Communications team plans and runs our participation in the City of Toronto’s Doors Open at the Historic Don Jail. This year we hosted just over 3,400 people over the May 23-24 weekend. Making an event like this run smoothly, even during a torrential downpour, takes an immense amount of planning, time and dedication.

Thank you to all the Communications team members who made the weekend a success. And thank you to our Sinai Health people who volunteered their time, or their high-school aged children’s time, we are grateful.
