Appointment: Director of the Division of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation

I am delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Chris Fortin as the inaugural Director of our newly formed Division of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. Dr. Fortin was selected as a result of an open search. His appointment initiates this new Sinai Health System Division, to be based at our Bridgepoint campus.

Bridgepoint Active Healthcare is an internationally recognized rehabilitation and complex continuing care hospital with active inpatient and ambulatory programs focusing on orthopedic, neurologic, and medical rehabilitation. Dr. Fortin’s appointment is an important milestone for Sinai Health System as it marks the transition of this flagship Bridgepoint program to an academic enterprise in full partnership with the University of Toronto. Dr. Fortin will work towards building a full complement of physiatrists to serve the academic and clinical needs of Sinai Health System. The Division’s physiatrists will continue to provide clinical coverage at our Bridgepoint campus, and will also develop a strategy to leverage the diverse expertise of the Sinai Health System family in improving the care of medically complex patients across the continuum.

Dr. Fortin joined Bridgepoint Active Healthcare in 2014. He obtained his medical degree from Western University and completed specialty training in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the University of Toronto. He also earned a Juris Doctor degree from the Faculty of Law and a Masters of Health Science degree from the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation (IHPME), both at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Fortin’s research is focused on rehabilitation of medically complex patient populations. He has published on rehab outcomes in patients with spinal cord injuries resulting from cancer, and his focus as Division Director is quality improvement. I look forward to growth and development of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation as an integrated cross-site clinical service and academic Division with strong education and research mandates under Dr. Fortin’s leadership.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Fortin and in wishing him the best in this new role.
