Congratulations to Dr. Prakeshkumar Shah on his new role as Sinai Health’s Paediatrician-in-Chief.

Dr. Shah has been serving as Interim Paediatrician-in-Chief since January 2019 and has practiced at Mount Sinai since 2002. His highly successful career has been dedicated to improving outcomes for fragile neonates through providing outstanding clinical care, productive and collaborative research, and highly coveted mentorship and training. 

His expertise is sought out throughout the health care system, and he has served as an advisor to government agencies, both nationally and internationally. His scientific and administrative leadership has led to multidisciplinary quality improvement initiatives, policy documents, advocacy and multiple research publications. 

Recognized as effective mentor and educator, Dr. Shah has supervised trainees who have gone on to assume leadership roles in neonatal-perinatal medicine across the globe. In 2019, he was recipient of a Mentor of the Year Award from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and has been praised by his trainees for his ability to find “a sweet spot in mentoring”.

Dr. Shah is a Professor in the Department of Paediatrics at University of Toronto, and is cross-appointed to the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation, as well as the Division of Neonatology at the Hospital for Sick Children.  He is also the Director of the Canadian Neonatal Network, the Canadian Preterm Birth Network, and the International Network for Evaluation of Outcomes in Neonates.
