Our Renew Sinai champions: Emergency RN championing change throughout the redevelopment
Phase 3A of Renew Sinai is the largest redevelopment project in Mount Sinai’s history and will bring extensive renewal to our space, technology and equipment.
Execution of this complex, multi-year project relies on the expertise of our Redevelopment Team, our construction partner Ellis Don and our Operational Readiness Team. In turn, they rely on in-hospital subject matter experts to make this project successful. Today is the first in a series of profiles on the people and teams who are serving as champions as we make Mount Sinai an even better place to receive and deliver care.
Doubling the size of the Schwartz/Reisman Emergency Centre while our Emergency Department teams continue to deliver care in our current space is no small feat, but the result will be an innovative new space that will transform how patients receive care when they need it most. Many teams and individuals are involved in making this project a success, and the newest addition is Kelly Shillington, Operational Readiness Program Champion for the Emergency Department. An Emergency Department nurse at Mount Sinai for eight years, Kelly’s role is to be a trusted redevelopment resource for Emergency Department staff and a knowledgeable advisor to the Operational Readiness team.
“I have been a passionate member of the MSH Emergency Department team for eight years, since starting my RN career, because of the excellent care we provide every day to some of the most complex and acute patients,” says Kelly. “Now officially a Program Champion for the area, this allows me to help in establishing consensus among my emergency department colleagues and other subject matter experts to achieve the redevelopment objectives in the best way possible. I’ve also set a goal for myself to ensure our patients and my colleagues feel safe and supported throughout the construction.”
“By engaging champions like Kelly who have the knowledge, relationships and passion, it helps ensure this project runs smoothly, and helps to prepare staff to continue delivering excellent care during construction and in their new space,” adds Alice Geertsen, Operational Readiness Project Manager.
