Sinai Health launches first-ever Strategic Research Plan to integrate discovery with care
This bold and visionary roadmap redefines the role of research within the organization and positions Sinai Health as a world leading academic health sciences centre.
Sinai Health has unveiled its inaugural Research Strategic Plan (2026–2031). It reflects a deep commitment to embedding research and innovation into every aspect of care delivery, education, and system transformation—ensuring that every patient, every discovery, and every insight contributes to a healthier future.
“At Sinai Health, research isn’t separate from care—it is foundational to our mission,” said Dr. Gary Newton, President and CEO, Sinai Health. “This plan charts a course for how we will leverage our scientific and clinical excellence to improve lives, both locally and globally.”
At the heart of the plan is the creation of Sinai Health Research, a unified structure that brings together all research programs, centres and institutes – including the internationally renowned Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute – under one umbrella. This integration will foster synergy across three interconnected research domains: discovery and translational research; clinical and disease-focused research; and population health, health systems, and implementation research. These domains reflect the full continuum of Sinai Health’s scientific enterprise and will guide strategic investments, partnerships, and talent development.
The plan also defines three broad areas of focus in which Sinai Health has global leadership – women’s and infants’ health, oncology and inflammatory conditions – as platforms for innovation, integration and impact across the entire research ecosystem. Finally, it defines nine strategic priorities, ranging from infrastructure renewal and talent development to enhanced partnerships with academic, philanthropic, industry and community partners.
“This plan signals a new era for Sinai Health Research,” said Dr. Anne-Claude Gingras, Vice President, Research and Director, LTRI, Sinai Health. “By fully connecting discovery science, clinical innovation, and population and health systems research, we are creating an inclusive research ecosystem where ideas move seamlessly from the lab to the bedside to the community. This is how Sinai Health will shape the future of care and deliver breakthroughs that improve lives – locally and around the world.”
The strategic plan is the result of a rigorous and inclusive planning process, informed by over 130 consultations and a community-wide survey. It represents a shared vision for the future – one that is bold, collaborative, and deeply rooted in Sinai Health’s vision to discover and deliver life-changing care.
