Dr. Amish Jain
Dr. Amish Jain completed his medical degree in India, his paediatric residency in the United Kingdom, and his fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine and PhD in physiology at the University of Toronto. Dr. Jain is a senior staff neonatologist and clinician scientist at Sinai Health.
He is the Director of Targeted Neonatal Echocardiography and Neonatal Hemodynamics Program, founded in 2011. This program provides more than 600 clinical consultations each year to help clinicians care for newborns with cardiovascular complications in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). It also houses a subspecialty training program for future neonatologists from around the world. Dr. Jain also leads the Neonatal Respiratory Care quality improvement and research program, and serves as Clinical Research Director for the NICU at Mount Sinai Hospital.
Dr. Jain is a professor of paediatrics at the University of Toronto. His specific research interests include neonatal critical care, cardiopulmonary physiology, the use of functional echocardiography, and reducing respiratory morbidity in the NICU. He holds several federal grants from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) for multicentre projects in preterm hemodynamics and respiratory care, including studies of chronic pulmonary hypertension, patent ductus arteriosus, septic shock and initial respiratory care during resuscitation.
Dr. Jain also received the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (Ontario) Clinician-Scientist Phase 2 Award for his research program, “Improving Management of Pulmonary Hypertension and Right Heart Function in Neonates (IMPRINT).” He is also a co-founder of the Neonatal Hemodynamic Research Centre (NHRC), an international consortium of leaders and practitioners in neonatal hemodynamics that gives trainees and early-career faculty access to a web-based learning curriculum. The Centre now includes more than 150 faculty members across more than 80 tertiary neonatal units in North America, Europe, the Middle East, India and Australasia.
