Dr. Nucelio Lemos
Credentials
MD, PhD
Overview
Dr. Nucelio Lemos is a gynaecologic surgeon who specializes in advanced minimally invasive surgery for complex benign gynaecologic disease, including endometriosis, chronic pelvic pain, pelvic nerve disorders and pelvic floor dysfunction.
His clinical practice focuses on the surgical management of deep infiltrating endometriosis, nerve-related pelvic pain, and complex pelvic pathology using advanced laparoscopic and robotic techniques. Dr. Lemos is internationally recognized for his expertise in pelvic neuroanatomy and neuropelveology, a field focused on diagnosing and treating pelvic nerve disorders. His surgical approach emphasizes careful retroperitoneal dissection and nerve-sparing techniques designed to treat disease while preserving pelvic nerve function and optimizing long-term functional outcomes.
At Mount Sinai Hospital, Dr. Lemos cares for patients with complex endometriosis, chronic pelvic pain syndromes and pelvic floor disorders. His practice includes the surgical management of advanced endometriosis that affects the bowel, bladder, ureters and pelvic nerves, as well as reconstructive procedures for pelvic floor dysfunction and pelvic organ prolapse. He works closely with interprofessional teams to provide coordinated, patient-centred care.
Dr. Lemos holds the Friedrichsen-Cooper Chair in Endometriosis and Chronic Pelvic Pain at Sinai Health and is a professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Toronto. His research and academic work focus on improving how we diagnose and treat chronic pelvic pain and on advancing nerve-sparing surgical techniques to improve functional outcomes in complex pelvic surgery.
Internationally, Dr. Lemos is widely recognized as a leader in surgical education and innovation. He has written many peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and regularly teaches advanced pelvic surgery and neuroanatomy at major international congresses and surgical training programs.
