Dr. Christian Pagnoux
Department of Medicine (Rheumatology), Mount Sinai Hospital
Our research focuses on understanding and improving the lives of people living with vasculitis—a group of conditions where the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks blood vessels. These diseases can affect nearly any organ, making them difficult to diagnose and treat. Our work brings together clinical experience, patient stories and scientific studies to find better ways to manage these complex illnesses.
Over the years, we’ve explored how different types of vasculitis behave, how they affect the brain, lungs, kidneys and other organs, and how treatments like steroids, immunosuppressants and newer targeted therapies can help. We’ve also studied how these diseases impact daily life like work, pregnancy and mental health and how we can reduce long-term side effects from medications.
We believe in working closely with patients and other researchers around the world to design smarter clinical trials and develop more personalized treatments. Our goal is to help people with vasculitis live longer, healthier lives with fewer relapses and better quality of life. While these diseases are rare, the lessons we learn from them can improve care for many others living with chronic immune conditions.
