Our focus is on advancing genomic diagnostics as a routine part of clinical care. We have driven progress in two key areas: developing national-scale infrastructure, including the Canadian Genomic Data Commons and Pan-Canadian Genome Library, and implementing practices that enhance data acquisition and sharing across Canada and internationally. Based at Mount Sinai Hospital’s Advanced Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory in the Division of Diagnostic Medical Genetics, we integrate clinical services with research discovery, using real-world feedback to refine diagnostic workflows, evaluate test performance, and assess the impact of genomic testing on patient care and disease risk.

We are also improving the sensitivity of genetic testing by adopting new sequencing technologies and developing frameworks to identify genetic disorders. In parallel, we are discovering new disease genes and clinically relevant variants, including through genome sequencing studies in patients to inform better therapies.

This work matters because more accurate and timely diagnoses can guide treatment, enable prevention, and improve outcomes. By strengthening data infrastructure and clinical integration, we are helping bring precision medicine into everyday healthcare.
