Advancing critical care for patients with cancer
Our primary research focuses on the critical care of immunocompromised and oncologic populations. Our group has founded the Critical Care Oncologic Investigative Network (COIN), a initiative designed to study and improve the care of patients with cancer who develop critical illness.
Broadly, we study the impact of a cancer diagnosis on the development of critical illness and critical care outcomes and, conversely, the impact of critical illness on the cancer diagnosis. Our group has evaluated long term outcomes following survival of critical illness and whether critical illness impacts return to cancer treatment. We have an interest acute respiratory failure as a cause of critical illness in this population and are currently evaluating whether we can identify sub phenotypes of respiratory failure using clinical, physiologic and biomarkers.
Finally, we are evaluating novel cancer therapies and their critical care implications. We have collaborated nationally and internationally to advance research in oncologic critical care.
