Geriatrics Lead
Department of Medicine (General Internal Medicine), Mount Sinai Hospital
Our work addresses pressing challenges affecting the health and wellbeing of older adults. Our overarching goal is to generate rigorous, policy-relevant evidence that informs health system design, clinical practice, and public policy to improve care for older adults, caregivers, and families.
Our research program is grounded in clinical epidemiology and health services research, with a strong emphasis on translating evidence into real-world decision-making. A defining feature of our work is its close integration with health policy, through active engagement with clinicians, policymakers, patient and caregiver partners, and health system leaders to ensure findings are actionable and impactful. This approach is reflected in sustained publication in high-impact clinical journals, national and international media engagement, and direct contributions to policy debates.
Our research lab is organized around five interrelated themes. First, we study unpaid family caregiving, particularly for persons living with dementia, with a focus on caregiver health, equity, and system-level supports. Second, we examine care delivery in Canadian long-term care homes, including physician commitment and models of medical care. Third, we focus on palliative and end-of-life care for persons living with advanced dementia. Fourth, we investigate drug safety in older adults, including prescribing cascades and medication-related harms. Finally, we study the health impacts of climate change on older adults.
Collectively, our work aims to improve the quality, safety and equity of care for aging populations.
