Gynaecologic Oncology
Gynaecologic cancers are the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells that begin in the female reproductive organs. This includes cancers of the cervix, endometrium, ovaries, uterus and vagina.
At Mount Sinai Hospital, we work with our colleagues at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre to provide innovative treatment and the highest quality of care for patients with gynaecologic cancers.
Our experts have pioneered treatments such as heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) with cytoredecutive surgery for patients with advanced ovarian cancer.
We also offer specialized care for gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD) and advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgeries to treat endometrial cancers.
What to expect
It is important to get regular Pap tests to screen for abnormal cervical cells and to discuss any concerning symptoms with your health-care provider.
Each cancer is different and requires specialized treatment.
If you are referred to our Cancer program, we may first send you for more tests to learn about your cancer.
You will then meet with a surgeon and/or a medical oncologist as part of your care. Your care team will work with you to develop a plan of care that is specific to your needs.
Care plans may include any combination of chemotherapy, radiation, systemic therapy or surgery.
